Nerds from all over the world celebrate Star Wars Day

This Friday (05/05) is a great day for lovers of the Star Wars series: today we celebrate Star Wars Day, where fans and nerds from all over the world come together to celebrate the official day of the Star Wars saga. All over the planet, fans watch all the movies in the saga again and incorporate their favorite characters from the film by wearing costumes such as the villain Darth Vader, Princess Leia or the Stormtroopers soldiers.

Although the first film in the franchise was released on May 25, 1977, admirers chose May 4 because of the famous Jedi phrase “May the force be with you”. In the Portuguese language it doesn’t make much sense, but when read in English (“May the force be with you”) the famous pun sounds similar to “May the fourth”, which in translation means “Quatro de Maio”.

Star Wars Day also has a lot of repercussions on the internet. On Twitter, for example, hashtags # maythe4thbewithyou and #starwarsday they are among the most commented by users, who take the opportunity to discuss the stories told on the big screens. Those who still don’t know much about the series, can discover several curiosities about the film’s chronology through a timeline on the saga’s official page.

For those who live in the state of So Paulo, an event this Saturday (05/05) in the city of So Caetano do Sul will be aimed especially to commemorate the symbolic date created by the fans. The event of the same name, Star Wars Day, will have lectures, videos and exhibitions, in addition to showing films in high definition. One of the attractions of the event will be the simulation of lightsaber battles – one of the hallmarks of Star Wars. The project takes place on Rua Serafim Constantino (Upper Floor of Module II of Rodoviária Nicolau Delic), in the Center of So Caetano.

May the force be with you!
