Disney buys Lucasfilm and will launch Star Wars 7 in 2015

THE Walt Disney Company is close to closing the Lucasfilm acquisition, which will include the Star Wars franchise. Formal details are lacking, but the deal is already closed between the parties.

The purchase of the George Lucas stadium is expected to cost $ 4.05 billion to Mickey Mouse’s home coffers. The first announcement is made for the production of Star Wars Episode 7, with a release date for 2015.

With the acquisition, Disney will be able to explore the Star Wars brand, which is very present in several forms of media – either through the films of the two trilogies or for other licensed products, including dolls and games.

George Lucas explained the reason for the sale. “For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars pass from generation to generation. Now is the time for me to pass Star Wars to a new generation of directors.”
