Telefnica Brasil released its financial results for the second quarter of the year with a net profit of R $ 914 million. The number represents a 15.8% drop over the gain obtained in the previous year, but is in line with analysts’ expectations, according to Reuters.
The company also ended the quarter with net revenue of R $ 8.5 billion, up 3% year-on-year, and 91.14 million accesses, with mobile, fixed, broadband and television services. Of the total, 76.7 million correspond to cell phones (up 0.6%) and 14.94 million to landlines (down 1.3%).
In mobile telephony, there was an increase of 20.4% in the base of post-paid lines and a decrease of 5.2% in pre-paid lines. As a result, the average revenue per user (arpu) of data rose 23.4%, reaching R $ 7.4 per month. Voice arpu fell 3%, to R $ 15.5 monthly.
According to the company, the group’s pay TV relaunch expenses were to blame for the drop in profit. In addition, operating costs grew 14.9% compared to 2012, reaching R $ 5.9 billion.
Of the total, 76.2 million corresponds to mobile accesses, an annual increase of 0.6 percent, and 14.94 million to fixed accesses, down 1.3 percent.
