Sky inflates customer base by 200,000 signups, says investigation

The parent company of 93% of Sky Brasil, American DirecTV investigates the subsidiary’s employees for alleged unlawful conduct, the website said on Friday, 28 Viva News Screen.

Preliminary results indicate that the “improper granting of credits to various customer accounts to reduce or eliminate outstanding balances from such subscribers” would have facilitated the artificial increase in the base of registrations.

According to the document, which has already been sent to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, the practice inflated the number of 5.2 million officially reported in March to the National Telecommunications Agency in up to 200 thousand clients.

DirecTV reports that it has already stopped supplying the program to “ghost” subscribers and says it will erase improper contacts with respect to the company’s policy from the base. As a result, improper entries will be excluded from the financial results for the second quarter of 2013.

Sky was contacted, but declined to comment.
