Rdio has appointed Anthony Bay as CEO, digital media executive with stints at Amazon, Microsoft and Apple. Bay will succeed Drew Larner immediately, as the former president will become the company’s vice president and strategic advisor.
“Your experience will be extremely valuable to Rdio because we will focus on building a global, scalable and positioned business model for long-term leadership and growth,” said Larner in an official statement.
During his tenure as head of Amazon’s global video business, Bay has grown the company to become the second largest subscription and transaction service in the U.S.
At Microsoft, Bay’s team was responsible for the company’s e-commerce technology platform and the development of Windows Media Player. At Apple, the executive directed the company’s online services.
With the hiring of Bay, Rdio wants to expand its global reach and subscriber base. It should also increase the value of global terrestrial radio partnerships.
“There are well over a billion smartphone users with millions more joining them every day, and our vision is that Rdio will become one of the must-have apps for any listener worldwide,” said Bay.
