In six months, the United States has asked Yahoo!

In the past six months alone, US officials have made between 12,000 and 13,000 user data requests to Yahoo !, as disclosed by the company.

Orders took place between December 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013, according to Yahoo!: “The most common requests involved fraud, murder, kidnapping and other criminal investigations.”

The company further explained that the requirements were in accordance with the Foreign Intelligence Watch Act, which requires any company to disclose data to the US government.
