4G starts to swallow pay TV via microwave

The pay TV market grew little in Brazil between the months of March and April this year, and a technology stood out negatively during the period, as shown by data from the National Telecommunications Agency released on Wednesday, 5.

The 160,402 new subscriptions made in April represent 0.95% increase compared to March. Of these, 156,990 were DTH (Direct to Home), that is, satellite subscription service.

In contrast, the MMDS format, which transmits microwave programming, lost 34,586 customers. it is precisely the technology used for the diffusion of mobile telephony, therefore, the days are numbered in Brazil, since MMDS operates in the 2.5 GHz band – the same as 4G.

The cable offer was the second that grew the most, with 38,002 new subscribers, and the UHF route, called TVA, was the second that lost the most customers, with a decrease of four subscribers.
