UK legalizes copying CDs and DVDs

In July, a revision of the UK copyright law will take effect that will allow the copying of protected material, provided it is for personal use.

This reform, as Galileo, it has been planned for years, but only now the Intellectual Property Office has published the exceptions.

“The government is committed to achieving strong, sustainable and balanced growth, which is shared across the country and between industries”, says the text, according to which it is allowed to copy a CD to the computer, or iPod etc., as well as share books between multiple devices.

What remains prohibited is the distribution of this material to third parties – and, of course, the sale. In Brazil, all this is still a crime, even a copy of the security has to be authorized by the author of the content.
