Creator of iMessage swaps Apple for communications startup

The man who led the development of iMessages and FaceTime, Apple’s two main communication platforms, left the company for a startup that promises news for the mobile application market.

Andy Vyrros became CTO of the company, which is called Layer and has attracted so much attention from investors that sources from TechCrunch they say their valuation is about $ 60 million.

That’s because Layer has a simple solution that can turn any app into a communicator. Just add less than 10 code command lines and the application gets an internal chat platform through which users can exchange text, audio and video messages and files. And it can be used between apps, too.

Still in beta, the product should soon be made available to all developers. The company also thinks about creating a communications service for web applications, but for now the focus is on the Android and iOS market.
