Sony announced on Monday, 9, that it had made a deal to bring the Spider-Man saga back into the Marvel superhero universe. In addition, a new film with the character is due to be released in 2017, with a premiere date set for July 28.
Sony has owned Spider-Man rights since 1999, when Marvel sold the superhero for $ 7 million. Despite the agreement, this is maintained and Sony still continues to distribute and have financial control over the franchise.
The actor who will play Spider-Man has not yet been released, however, he will be neither Andrew Garfield nor Tobey Maguire, who have starred in the other films in the series. The production will be in charge of Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal.
