The National Cinema Agency intends to frame video on demand services in the Pay TV Law, according to the Folha de S.Paulo. This includes Netflix, HBO Go and Fox Play, for example.
With this, companies will be obliged to respect quotas that impose national and independent content in the middle of their programming. In the case of Netflix, there is already a lot of Brazilian material there, but that amount would have to be consistent with a new regulation made under the law.
“One of the studies proposes that 30% of the content of video services on demand be destined to independent and national production”, reveals Folha. “The sector’s legislation must undergo a rearrangement to accommodate the new ‘on demand’ regulation.”
